The units available for rent at AKRA are rental replacement units classified as affordable housing, with monthly rents not exceeding the City’s established thresholds for each unit type. Annual rent increases are governed by the Provincial Rent Increase Guideline.

To be eligible, a household must meet the following criteria at the time of occupancy:

• at least one member must be 16 years of age or older and able to live independently;

• all household members must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents (or applicants), or refugee claimants/Convention refugees;

• the total household income must not exceed four times the annualized rent (calculated as monthly occupancy cost × 4 × 12);

• households must not have arrears with a social housing provider (unless in good standing under a repayment plan);

• must not own a home suitable for year-round occupancy;

• must not be subject to an enforceable removal order.
